Quote from JeffB1961 on 07/16/2023, 06:27i found some reloader 7 locally for $60 for a 16 oz bottle . are or have you folks used it in a SML ? i’ve read that it’s dirtier than IMR/H4198 or N110 …. but how much dirtier ? i won’t be shooting heavy loads . i have a 16 oz bottle of hoppes #9 , a 10 pack of otis nylon 45 brushes and 2 of their bore mops for cleaning and of course a bunch of moist and dry swabs . my SML will be a 45 patriot with a brux barrel and stock BP . i have a few packs of federal 209a primers i’ll be using .

Quote from customguns on 07/16/2023, 07:32I’ve used it in making 45-70 rounds. 300 grain bullet and 47 grains of powder, measured by weight, gives a velocity of about 2000fps. Never used it in SML because I shoot much faster velocities, but you should be able to duplicate the 45/70 load. Some of the other guys may have actually used it in SML.

Quote from Sideshow on 08/19/2023, 05:41I have no idea as to what barrel dimensions are on a Patriot to give you safe load maximums . My barrel nut Rem/Brux 45 is 1.062 ” at the shank with ASG modual ignition . Ignition matters for pressures developed . H4198 and IMR4198 are nearly identical . I think the Hogden does produce a little bit more velocity and the fouling seems a bit softer . They can be used interchangeably . Reloader 7 is a little dirty but is easy on sabots . If youre smart youll start there with sabots . I say this because of experiance or sensed lack of it ?? Youve asked these same questions on a few forums . I think your best bet is to contact Woodman and do as he says . Its a very light rifle and honestly the last thing id try to shoot is a heavy bullet fast or bore riding in general close to max loads . That recoil will beat you silly !!! Its far smarter to shoot about a 225 fury star tip in a harvester light blue with 56 or 57gr 4198 and be fine to 300 yds sighted 2″ high @ 100 and at 300 be about 3″ low . Even your scope will appreciate that load and live awhile hopefully . I wouldnt move off that load for love nor money in that gun if it were mine . At under 6 pounds you are Still gonna know you pulled the trigger and from zero to 300 yds away will be a dead deer if youve done your part and put it where you ought . Anything more ask Mark Woodman .
Incidentally that target submitted on the blackhorn loads about accurate shooting advice , the instructions on it are Strictly for a handgun . Thats useless for a rifle shooter .
